A World Gone Mad

“Babylon was a golden cup in the Lord’s hand, making all the earth drunken; the nations drank of her wine; therefore the nations went mad.” – Jeremiah 51v7

It seems the dreams about madness and murder, lawlessness and persecution, are coming to pass. I don’t need to expand on that, one has only to look at the news. New abortion laws have been passed in Ireland (“Frankie” the Irishman tearing a baby?). Freedom to practise lawlessness without consequence seems to be the new trend.

As frightful as those dreams were, and as repulsive as reality is, I’m not here today to talk about how bad the world is. I’m here to talk about how great God is. What? Where is he in this mess? – some of you might ask. Society chose to remove God, therefore he gave them over to their sinful passions – welcome to liberation! But for those of us trying to navigate through the chaos, there is so much to uplift us right now, and it’s all right there, in God’s word:

“…The Lord has stirred up the spirit of the kings of the Medes, because his purpose concerning Babylon is to destroy it, for that is the vengeance of the Lord, the vengeance for his temple.” – Jeremiah 51v11

Fellow believers – we are God’s temple. And we are tormented by the wickedness we see around us. All this chaos is, I believe, God stirring up ‘the spirit of the Medes’.

Further on we read, “Every man is stupid and without knowledge…his images are false, and there is no breath in them. They are worthless, a work of delusion; at the time of their punishment they shall perish” (Jeremiah 51v17-18) and “…the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will execute judgment upon her images, and through all her land the wounded shall groan” (Jeremiah 51v52) – I cannot help but picture all the many monuments and statues that are being torn down right now.

Yes, the ‘powers that be’ think that they are in control of this, they think they have orchestrated it – but I so love what God has to say about that ‘all-seeing eye pyramid’ thing with its capstone:

“No stone shall be taken from you for a corner and no stone for a foundation, but you shall be a perpetual waste, declares the Lord.” – Jeremiah 51v26.

True that we have some tough times to go through yet, but let us faithfully follow the Lord’s instruction:

“Go out of the midst of her, my people!....Let not your heart faint, and be not fearful at the report heard in the land, when a report comes in one year and afterward a report in another year, and violence is in the land, and ruler is against ruler.” – Jeremiah 51v54-46

The world is giving us so many options – BLM, LGBTQ, one political party vs another, Pro-life vs my body my choice, Vaxers vs anti-vaxers, Israel vs Islam, and the list goes on. In all of these, the world says, ‘pick a side! You have to love one and hate the other, you have to choose between these’, and everything denigrates into confusion. In one of my previous dreams, I was told, “the first step is just to separate you – wait till you see what’s next”, and then I saw people fumbling around like stupid zombies. I think we are there now. In the dream “Dangerous Deception” I was standing on a table looking down at the coils of a python thinking I was safe, but the head of the snake was behind me, watching me. I think all these things pitting us against each other – these are those coils of the python. While we’re all worried about watching the goings on and picking a side and thinking we’re ‘on top of things’ (on top of the table) – realise that the head of that snake is already raised, and watching us, on the other side of the table. There are things happening ‘under the table’ that are not in the public eye. In the dream “Be careful what you’re feeding on”, I was shown not to partake in what the world was trying to feed me. I think this is it.

While we have to be aware of what is going on, we must do what the Lord says – come out of it. There are not a hundred different sides, there are only two – Jesus and Satan. Let’s narrow it down, calm down, and stand in Christ alone.

Anyone thinking that Jeremiah 51 was for long ago – the parallels between Jeremiah 51 and Revelation 18 are uncanny. Everything that has been will be again, there is nothing new under the sun.
